"Asleep on the Job"

From The 12 Norman Rockwell Figurines Collection issued by The Danbury Mint in 1980

Norman Rockwell portrayed people from all walks of life - clerks, truck drivers, teachers, waitresses, doctors, even hobos - and he treated them all with equal dignity, humor, and affection. This attitude, as it was expressed throughout the artist's work, makes an important and undeniable statement about a country in which every person is free to be whatever he or she would like to be. The passage of time has added other dimensions, as well, to Rockwell's illustrated recording of life in these United States. Not least among them is the preservation of times and characters which might otherwise be forgotten.

"Asleep on the Job" is from The 12 Norman Rockwell Figurines Collection, issued by The Danbury Mint in 1980. This series is based on Rockwell's famous covers for the Saturday Evening Post, circa 1920. Each colorful porcelain figurine is lavishly and carefully detailed in Rockwell's inimitable manner, and is full of wonderful surprises at every viewing angle.
